Sister Rose Welsh (Sister Mary Arthur)
A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario, died in Pembroke on the 10th day of February, 2016 in the 75th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community and devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Maurice and Cecilia (Dorgan), brothers Father Arthur Welsh, Maurice, Richard (twin brother), and her sister, Nora Owens. Sister Rose was born in Toronto, on September 15th,1918. She entered the Community on September 6th,1941, pronouncing final vows on July 23rd, 1946. A teacher by profession, she taught in several areas including Timmins and Ottawa, where she served as full-time principal at Assumption School. Other assignments led her to teaching at Algonquin College, leadership positions in the Community, Assistant Librarian at the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital, and Director of Pastoral Care, Youville Residence, Vancouver B.C. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Visitation at Caritas Residence, 215 Deacon Street, Pembroke, ON on Saturday, February 13th, 2016 from noon to 2 p.m. Funeral Liturgy at the Caritas Residence Chapel on February 13th at 2 p.m. Interment in St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke.
