Obituary for Eugene "Gene" Roger Parent

Eugene "Gene" Roger Parent
PARENT, Eugene Roger “Gene” – Passed away on Friday, May 20th, 2016, in his 58th year. Gene will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 35 years, Kim (nee Denyer). He was the proud, loving father of Richard (Christelle) and Courtenay (Mike Cremers). The oldest son to his loving parents, Gene and Gloria Parent; he is survived by his sisters Cindy Raine, Jacki Harris (Martin) and Denise Marsh (Allan) and his brother, Raymond (Deanna). He will be missed by his brother-in-law Mike Denyer and was loved by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene was born in Windsor, Ontario on May 2, 1959. He spent his first year there before his father was posted to Germany. His mother, Gloria made the arduous ten-day ocean voyage with one-year-old Gene and infant sister Cindy. The family spent two years in Germany before returning to Borden, where they lived until posted to Petawawa when Gene was 13. Gene was an outstanding athlete; excelling at any sport he played. His love was hockey and although small in stature, he made a name for himself as a talented and gritty player. He played Junior with the Arnprior Packers before heading to Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay where he studied Natural Resources. In early 1978, he met Kim and they were inseparable from that day forward. In early 1980, they left to make their life in Calgary, Alberta. Gene’s Uncle Paul gave them their start in Calgary for which they are forever grateful. Over the years they built successful careers, made life long friends and brought two incredible children into their lives who have always been the center of their world. In 1992, they bought an acreage outside of Cochrane. It was here they met their dear friends, Terry and Carol Raymond. Gene became an avid bow hunter and spent countless hours with Terry learning about whitetail and mule deer habits, improving their habitat and patiently waiting for his buck. He had much success, including a Boone and Crocket whitetail. Most of all, he treasured his friendship with Terry and the peaceful beauty of the Alberta foothills. Gene was a devoted father and was so proud of his children’s achievements, success and happiness. After a long career with Canada Dry and Coca Cola Bottling, Gene built a successful real estate career in Cochrane. He and Kim purchased an Ontario waterfront cottage with the plan to retire there. They had grown up around the water and wanted to get back to an easier way of life. After retiring to their cottage, they spent their days working together landscaping and creating their happy place. Gene was artistic and worked with metal using a plasma cutter creating beautiful pieces. One of the best parts of living on the river was the special friendship that flourished with their neighbours, Tim and Jean Taft. He touched many lives during his life and left us far too early. He will be deeply missed. Respecting Gene’s wishes, cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to True Patriot Love would be appreciated. A Memorial service will be held in Cochrane, Alberta at a later date. Arrangements by the Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella St., Pembroke.
