SMITH, James Raymond “Ray” - It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of James Raymond “Ray” Smith on Monday, December 19th, 2016 in his 93rd year. Ray Smith of Petawawa, beloved husband and best friend of Renice Smith (nee Doyle) with whom he proudly told everyone they celebrated 69 years of marriage on October 1st, 2016. Loving father of Heather (Bryce) Hanna, Dawn (Tony) Wyver, Lorrie (Ed) Whiteman, Sue (Dan) Skomsky and Lianne Paterson. Cherished grandfather to many grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Predeceased by son Philip Raymond Smith, by infant grandson John Andrew Smith and by great grandson Aiden Keon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ray served in WWII going from France to Germany, receiving many medals and he recently received the Holland Medal. Ray was a serious community service member involved with the Knights of Columbus; Rotary Club Member (Recipient of the Paul Harris Award) and various other associations throughout the community. He believed in helping and serving others. He was instrumental in bringing about the Eighteenth Hole of the Pembroke Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing with his friends; was an avid skier and loved swimming. Ray journeyed home with the help of his predeceased son Philip. Ray was a firm believer in God and taught us the true way to love one another and forgive each other. Ray was loved and cherished by his family and we will miss him. Visitation at the

on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Petawawa on Friday, December 23rd, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A special thank you to his care team, Kelly, Dr. MacPherson and especially to Sue Skomsky, who granted his wish to die in her home surrounded by his family and loving wife Renice.
