Obituary for John Coleman

John Coleman
COLEMAN, John (Johnny) - Died suddenly in hospital on Sunday, November 5th, 2017 at the age of 68 years old. John Coleman of Pembroke, beloved son of the late Roy and Hazel Coleman (nee Hay). John is survived by his sister, Betty MacDonald of Pontypool, Jack Coleman of Cornwall, and Terry Coleman of Cornwall, his one niece, four nephews, and his great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Gordon Coleman of Summerstown, sisters Mary Kay Coleman (Heurter) of Cornwall and Judy Coleman (Fisher) of Renfrew, sister-in-law Carol Coleman and his nephew Jody Coleman of Cornwall. Johnny spent most of his life in Pembroke, moving there shortly after finishing college. His love of sports quickly led him to volunteer and coach in numerous capacities including minor ball, minor hockey, power skating, broomball and ball hockey with Special Olympics. While he was given many accolades over the years for his dedicated work with youth, he was most proud of his award for Volunteer of the Year from the Canadian Figure Skating Association in 1992. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and an active reader with the church for many years as well.
Johnny was loved and respected by so many in his community. He was a funny, kind and generous man that cherished life and lived it to the fullest every day. His sudden passing has truly left a huge hole in the lives of his friends and his family; the Colemans and his Pembroke surrogate family the Friends. At Johnny’s request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, please remember all the laughs and the golf games and cheer for the Canadians for him whenever you can! We love you Johnny!
