Obituary for Sister Nicole "Sister Mary Suzanne" Aubé CSJ

Sister Nicole "Sister Mary Suzanne" Aubé CSJ
Sister Nicole Aubé, CSJ
(Sister Mary Suzanne)
The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, Pembroke Neighbourhood sadly announce the death of our beloved Sister Nicole on Thursday, March 8, 2018. Sister Nicole was born in Ste. Claire, QC on April 6, 1943, the daughter of Leo and Liliane (Garant), the oldest in a family of nine children, six girls and three boys. She was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, infant Suzanne and Diane Aubé. Sister Nicole loved life and was loved by her family, her community, her friends and those with whom she worked in both Canada and Peru. Nicole began her teaching career in her home village at age 16 with 50 boys of various ages in grade five. Prompted by a wish to learn English and be adventuresome in the process, she applied for a teaching position in Rapides-des-Joachims. Our Sisters were in charge of the school. After two years of teaching a grade 1-5 class and seeing the Sisters ministering so generously and indiscriminately to the people, Nicole felt called to become one of them. Sister Nicole entered the Congregation on September 8, 1963. An avid learner and always eager to bring newness and life to her work, Nicole engaged in education in Ontario and Peru. Nicole had a broad vision of life and was ever ready to implement new ways of engaging with others and cheering them on along the Journey of Life especially in difficult times. Nicole was a sincere, sensitive and generous person who helped many through the sharing of her health journey as she struggled with the chemo treatments maintaining a positive attitude throughout the process. Nicole had a strong ability to see and draw forth the positive in every situation whether it be as Formation Director of candidates, Executive Director of L’Arche, FSL Teacher to hospital employees, in Congregational Leadership, or as a Spiritual Director. With a degree in Social Work, Sister Nicole began her employment with Psychogeriatric Community Services in Ottawa where she developed a program for the caregivers of people with dementia, which is being taught and used today. Life was Nicole’s passion and even with illness, she wished to live each day to the fullest. Reception of the Body – Friday, March 16th at 3 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, 1127 Pembroke Street West, Pembroke, Ontario. Visitation begins at 3:30 p.m. with a prayer Service at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on on Saturday, March 17th at 10:30 a.m. Interment at St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke.
