Obituary for John "Jack" Gray

John "Jack"  Gray
GRAY, JACK (JOHN) - It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Gray announce his passing on Friday, March 30, 2018, in his 91st year, at the Pembroke Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Jack was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Dolores (nee Gribben), who passed away in 2013, his eldest daughter Angela and by his three brothers and sisters. Jack is survived by four of his children; Shirley (Paul), Dan (Mich), Gary (Dave) and Steven (Kathy), ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born on May 16, 1927, Jack was raised in Toronto and moved to the Deep River/Pembroke area almost 60 years ago. Jack started his career as a high school teacher at Mackenzie High School and advanced to Superintendent of the Renfrew County School Board before retiring over 25 years ago. Jack was also the first principal of the prestigious Deep River Science Academy of which several graduates went on to distinguished careers in areas of Canadian Medicine and Science. Earlier in his life, Jack was a member of the Toronto Argonauts football team, winning a Grey Cup Championship in 1952. In addition, Jack ran in 2 Boston marathons, ran a sub three-hour marathon at the early age of 47, was an avid runner, golfer and cross country skier. Jack will be remembered in a private family memorial. Memorial donations may be made in his honour to the North Renfrew Long Term Care Center, 47 Ridge Avenue, Deep River, ON K0J 1P0, Canada
