Obituary for Reverend John Orval Affleck

AFFLECK, Reverend John Orval - On June 16, 2017 at The Healthcare Unit of Saint Joseph’s Motherhouse, Pembroke, Ontario, John Orval Affleck entered into eternal rest in the Lord.   He was in his 72nd year. Predeceased by his parents, Leita and Cecil Affleck, he is survived by his brother Tom (Norma) and his sisters, Shirley Affleck and Ellen (Bill) Ranger. Ordained to the Priesthood at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Petawawa in 1976, Father Affleck served the Church in Pembroke at Our Lady of Lourdes and Holy Name of Jesus parishes and at St. John Chrysostom parish in Arnprior.   As a Chaplain in the Canadian Forces he was stationed in Canada at Halifax and  Moose Jaw and at CFB Baden-Baden in Germany.  Following graduation from the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland, he established a private practice in analytical psychology and did this work in Ottawa during the past twenty years.  Throughout these years he continued on occasions to assist Pastors within his home diocese. In a recent memorandum he wrote “I thank all those many persons and the Sisters of Saint Joseph who supported me in the privilege to work with all members of the Holy Church.  I thank God in Jesus, through His Spirit who chose me to work in the service of the Soul.” Resting on Tuesday, June 20 at The Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1127 Pembroke Street West, Pembroke, Ontario. Rite of Reception of the Body at 3:30 PM with visitation following until 8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Petawawa at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 21. Interment in the Priests’ Plot at St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke. Memorial Donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph missions. Arrangements by the
