Obituary for Pamella Eileen Poitras (Jones)

POITRAS, Pamella Eileen - Pamella Eileen Poitras (nee Jones) passed away on November 13, 2022 at Miramichi Lodge, in Pembroke, Ontario, from vascular dementia and cancer. She was 90 years old, the daughter of the late Thomas and Marguerite (nee Rose) Jones, and strongly connected to her Franco-Ontarian, Ottawa Valley and Roman Catholic heritages. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Pamella was born on October 11, 1932 and, except for a short period in Sault Ste. Marie, lived life energetically and entirely in her home sweet hometown of Pembroke. A life well lived spanned 10 remarkable decades and confirmed her legacy as a cherished sister, kind aunt, beautiful mother and devoted friend. Her success in life was huge as evidenced by family and friends who loved her and drew strength from knowing she gave them her heart and devotion. After attending l'Académie Sainte-Croix high school, Pamella worked at A & P, and a dry cleaner, prospered in Tupperware and home fashion events, and proved her talents at iconic Eaton’s and K-Mart, where she was beloved by customers and staff. She was an extraordinary worker, but it was the things she did as a volunteer (St. Joseph Food Bank), carer (Meals on Wheels), community organizer (La Fédération des femmes canadiennes-françaises de Pembroke), and good neighbour, always the first to offer help, that made her special. Memories she created will never fade. She was especially proud of the crafts, sewing, crochet, sweaters and quilts, and pies, she vigorously created with her gifted hands. And took pride in knowing these were talents learned from her adored mother. She loved gardening, social events, happy traditions, and choir singing, fishing, playing cards, bingos and day trips with her sisters around the Valley. She always managed to maintain her sense of humour during tough periods. Pamella made dream trips to France (Paris) and Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice and Sicily), Vancouver and Prince Edward Island, and special holiday journeys to Edmonton, North Bay, Windsor and Toronto to enjoy with family. Predeceased by husbands James Beaudry and Gilles Poitras, her sister Marguerite Bertola, her brothers Brian Jones and Clarence Jones, and her treasured eldest son, Jeff (Sue). Besides her children Lisa (Jackie), Paulette (Mike) and Neil (Tracy), and stepson Jacques Poitras (Nancy), Pamella is survived by her loving sisters Jeannette McKay and Pauline Rodgers (Frank). Grandmother to Jordan and Kayla, Kristy, David and James, and Jaymee and Kelly. Sadly missed by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her children especially wish to thank the incredibly compassionate leadership and staff of Miramichi Lodge, 3A, who valiantly cared for Pamella. For the tenderness and respect you gave mom we are forever in your debt. Respecting Pamella’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will welcome relatives and friends at Neville Funeral Home, 491 Isabella St., Pembroke on Saturday, November 19th 2022 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Jean Baptiste Church, Pembroke on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at 2 p.m., followed by a graveside service for burial of the ashes at St. Columba’s Cemetery. Afterwards, refreshments will be served in the church basement where Pamella loved nothing better than giving her time and baking to support countless events. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Miramichi Lodge Foundation, in memory of Pamella, would be appreciated. Pamella endured through both the best and hardest of times. Remarkable in many ways, she was especially happy when in the company of her departed son and sister, as well as her parents and brothers, who were among the loves of her life. May she now enjoy that pleasure forever and ever.
