SMITH, Renice Mary Margaret (nee Doyle) - Passed away December 11,2020, peacefully with her daughters by her side. Renice was born March 12, 1923 in Vinton, Quebec, the first born of six girls to Dominic and Lydia Doyle. She spoke often of the fond memories of growing up there, going to a one room school house, walking to school, being driven to some places by horse and buggy, helping with the chores and the abundance of love that filled their home. Renice moved to Ottawa as a young woman, of 18 years old, where she started her career at the National Bank of Canada, then moved on to the Canada Post Office, her final job was a twenty-year career at 1CMED in Petawawa. Renice met the love of her life in Ottawa, James Raymond Smith, known as JR or Ray. Married him October 1, 1947. They had six beautiful children, Heather, Phil, Dawn, Lorrie, Sue, and Lianne. They had 69 years of marriage, before her beloved husband and best friend Ray left her side on December 19, 2016. Renice embraced life with love, zest and courage. As a young mother she traveled to Germany via ship with 4 children in 1954, just after World War 2 ended to be reunited with her husband who bravely served our country. This I am sure, created her love of travel, as it was just the beginning of her many worldly, adventures! Renice and Ray travelled to many countries, and often Mom would venture out in these countries taking in the beauty and the cultures that each country offered! Renice had many creative talents, she was an avid gardener, winning horticulture awards for the best and the most beautiful gardens, she loved to paint beautiful pictures, she made the most beautiful bouquets, and decorated cakes, made her children’s skating costumes, everything she did was done with love, pride and joy! There was nothing that she couldn’t turn her hand to. Besides her husband, Renice’s biggest love in life was her family and her abundance of faith. She taught us how to live, laugh, dance, create, explore, communicate, accept, forgive, travel, but most of all she showed us how to love and to believe in ourselves. She taught us grace by her examples throughout her life. Although our hearts are broken, we can only imagine her joy, as she walked through the gates of heaven and into the arms of Jesus…and then to be reunited with her beloved husband Ray, her beloved son Phil, her beloved son in law Ed Whiteman, her loving parents, her precious grandson John Andrew Smith, her sisters Estelle, Doris, Lorena, Beverley, and her best friend Mary Hudson. What a glorious Christmas it will be for her. Having a front row seat to celebrate the birth of Jesus, surrounded by a heavenly host of fellow angels, oh what happiness and joy she will have in her soul! Left to cherish, honour, live and carry on her legacy of love are her daughters: Heather (Bryce) Hanna, Dawn (Tony) Wyver, Lorrie Smith-Whiteman, Sue (Dan) Skomsky, Lianne Paterson and her beloved sister Martina (Martin), She also leaves behind Her 13 grandchildren and their partners, Jason (Brooke), Lisa, Scott, Christopher, Cara, Dominic (Natalie), Solange (Chris), Tanya (Jody), Wendi (Don), Rhianna, Derron (Arielle), Kyle (Holly) and Ashton (Nikki). As well her 13 great grandchildren Zachary, Lucian, Terrik, Ashleigh, Jordyn, Taya, Aaliyah, Hayden, Olivia, Mathew, Caleb, Lillianna and Oliver all of whom she loved and cherished. Special thanks to all her friends that took the time to come in and visit with her, and make her time there a little happier and more magical. Renice treasured each and every visit, conversation and laughter and loved to share stories. Special thanks to our sister Sue who travelled every step of Mom’s journey when the rest of us couldn’t.
