Obituary for Sheila Decaire-Gauthier (Cowper)

DECAIRE-GAUTHIER, Sheila - Peacefully at home on Sunday, November 14, 2021 in her 96th  year. In loving memory of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was loved by all who knew her. She was 95 years young and remained active until the end, attending the Beetles Revival concert the night before she passed. Sheila was a young war bride when she travelled to Canada from England at the age of 19.  She was warmly welcomed by her new husband’s  family and loved being part of that large family, having grown up an only child. Sheila and Andrew had three boys and raised them initially in Mattawa, and then in Pembroke with a few years in St. Jerome (where she met her lifelong friend, Suzanne Martel). Andrew passed in I985 and she married Don Gauthier a few years later. They were together until he passed 3 years ago. She was known for her active social life and she loved to dance. She loved people and enjoyed a cold beer. She moved to Supples Landing a few years ago and embraced this new chapter of her life. She made many new friends and even taught the exercise classes, starting during COVID and continued up until the end. Sheila loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and attended every celebration. She was such a bright light and she touched many people’s lives. She will be dearly missed. Sheila Decaire-Gauthier, loving mother to  Barry (Laurie), Brian (Anna) and Brent (Sherry) Decaire. Longtime friend of Suzanne Martel. Dear stepmother of Michelle (Rick) Martens and Gilles (Tammy) Gauthier. Caring grandmother of Tara, Jason, Kevin, Alex, Adrienne, Kayla, Tanner, Taylor, Teia, Sean and Lindsay. Caring great grandmother of Victoria, Katlyn, Harper, Hudson, Charlie, Rose, Brady, Sadie, Sebastian, Sawyer  and Finn. Dear cousin of Robert (Jane) Woodward of England.  The family will receive relatives and friends at the
