A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, ON, died in Pembroke on the 22nd day of December, 2022 in the 75th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community, her brother James (Norma), niece Mary, nephew Hugh, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Bertha (Gannon) and her sister, Margaret McGovern. Sister Catherine was born in Ottawa on September 23, 1928. She entered the Community on September 9, 1948, pronouncing final vows on August 6, 1953. A teacher by profession, she ministered in Ottawa and Midland, serving as principal at St. Theresa School in Midland from 1968 - 71. This was followed by fourteen years as Head of Guidance St. Pius X High School, Ottawa. Sister Catherine also obtained a Master's degree in Counselling from the University of Ottawa. In 1986, she retired from teaching after thirty-five years and in 1988, received the ‘Bishop Reding Award’ for her contribution to education. In retirement she volunteered in various areas in Ottawa including, Holy Rosary Parish, Youville Centre, Our Lady of Wisdom School, and as Pastoral Assistant at Divine Infant Parish for sixteen years. Her final years were lived peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke. Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 280 Lourdesview Dr., Pembroke on Thursday, December 29th at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Columba Cemetery.
