My Brother, My Friend

Jerry had to be one of the most colourul people I have ever known.  Growing up, I didn't know him very well as he was off to exotic places like Vancouver, Calgary and Winnepeg.  I would listen to his stories on his brief stints home and could only imagine the places he would talk about.  He collected friends along the way and would often bring them home.  I still remember the best friend of his youth, Jack; I saw Jack as an extra member of the family for several years.

I got to know Jerry better through my teen years; many firsts with him...some that were clearly not to be shared with our parents!! Enough said there!  He was a caring and thoughtful brother.  Always ready to share his home, his stories and his music.  I never knew anyone who could beat his memory for music trivia; that man sure knew his stuff! The year, the album, the lyrics, he knew it all! And he was never as happy as when he was recounting it to who ever happened to be around.  When Robbie Robertson released his biography a few months ago, the first person I thought of was Jerry.  The first time I watched The Last Waltz was with him.

I will always hold Jerry in my heart; for better or worse, (some his, some mine) he was such a big part of my youth.  I loved him like crazy and will remember him for ever.

There are far too many stories and thoughts in my head and to share them here would be beyond the scope of this space.  Jerry will live on through the family he loved so fiercely,

Good bye my brother and friend, from Red.
