The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Sister Mary Rita Kennedy can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Joanne Dumanski (Chambers)

Sister Rita (Sr. St. Leonard) was a remarkable woman whose charm, wit and devotion to purpose was an inspiration. She was a very important influence in my still formative years as a student nurse and I believe that the values of integrity, compassion and Christian love were at the heart of everything she endeavored to instill in all of the students of St. Mary's. Later, as a member of the faculty, her leadership and guidance gave all of us the opportunity to grow and develop our potentials in an atmosphere of integrity, mutual respect and dedication to the highest standards of our profession. Her wonderful sense of humor was always just below the surface and allowed for a lot of fun too. Sr. Rita maintained a constant interest in the lives and well-being of each of us as the years passed and she became more than a mentor. She was a great friend and I will miss her dearly. I must say too that I will always be grateful for my years spent with the Grey Sisters at the General Hospital and I know that they will always be remembered fondly, both individually and as a religious order by a great many of the residents of Sault Ste. Marie.
